My favorite thing about teaching is simple: I love watching my dancers get excited about dance! This summer we went to St. George to take part in an awesome opportunity where our dancers took workshops from choreographers for the Tuacahn musicals & perform in the pre-show. After a long year of competitions, conventions, & performing dancers tend to get worn out! Not only physically, but mentally & emotionally. By summertime a lot of them forget why they even love to dance. All they can think about is how drained they are! & if they never see another pointe shoe for the rest of their life it’ll be too soon! But this summer as I sat next to them & watched them watch the opening dance scene in Newsies they lit up! I heard multiple gasps, “wows!” & “they’re such good dancers!” They couldn’t take their eyes off the stage. So for the first time that summer they started to forget about how exhausted they were & started to focus on their future in dance. They could do that! They could be in a musical or a backup dancer or perform in The Nutcracker. It fueled their passion. ANYTHING WAS POSSIBLE! Moments like that are what it’s all about for me. Watching my dancers get excited about dance all over again makes teaching priceless & for them it makes another year of competitions, long hours at the studio, & sore bodies all worth it!

I have been involved in dance and gymnastics since the age of 3 and never stopped! For almost 40 years I have loved learning new things and especially having the experience of being on stage and performing for an audience! I feel passionate about bringing that opportunity to all of my students through the art of dance, acting, and singing!!! I absolutely love the positive self-esteem that can be built through this amazing experience of the performing arts. I believe that all students have the ability to learn and grow and become a better version of themselves! I have always loved teaching and connecting with my students and this is what keeps me involved in this business!! Building friendships, relationships, and self-esteem are truly my reason why!! I love being able to see the true joy and happiness on students faces when they feel successful in their performances on stage. I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked with so many amazing people and to continue to have the opportunity to meet and work with new people! The performing arts have brought so much joy to my life and I know it can do the same for you!!
Thanks for this amazing opportunity!!

Dancing, Acting and Vocal Classes In Utah – A Fathers View
Dance classes, Acting Classes and Vocal Lessons are huge in Utah. Why do you ask? Because Utah parents are fully invested in their children and dance, acting and vocal lessons have proven to be one of the best ways to provide the physical, mental, social, and intellectual growth of thier children.
Dance lessons, whether they are Jazz, Tap, ballet, Hip Hop, Breakdancing, Dance Competition teams, Modern, and more deliver the well rounded development of children.
Acting classes are amazing at building self-esteem and confidence and learning how to present yourself to others.
Vocal classes go far beyond just learning to sing as they teach students how to perform and be comfortable in front of large groups and instill confidence and personal growth.
Utah is a place where children are encouraged to grow and develop and every parent wants to help their children to develop self-esteem and confidence. That is why dance, acting and vocal classes in Utah are so key to parent’s success.
Now I know that some of you Dads out there show up to the recitals once a year and wonder why you are spending all of this money on classes and as a father of 4 children (3 girls, 1 boy) I share your financial pain.
Whether football, soccer, tennis, lacrosse or any other physical sport there are always costs involved but I will say that the benefits far out way the costs.
I apologize but I will take this post a little personal and tell you about my experience with my children and dance.
I have watched 3 daughters and my son grow up with an involvement in dance and I have seen the benefits that dance classes can provide and here are some of my observations.
When my children were very young and just getting started in dance I think the only benefit was that they has some great pictures in their dance outfits. They were “Super Cute” as my wife would say but it dint seem like they had learned a whole lot. As the years went by I noticed that they began to develop friendships and have learned to work together with other students in their classes. They learned to interact socially with their classmates and they were able to learn how to work at something and that by working hard they could get better and improve their skills. By doing so they then began to be self-motivated to become better and to excel in their Ballet Technique. Now Ballet can be pretty hard core but we were able to find the perfect balance with our teachers between being strict and helping them progress and also being a positive force for good and encouragement in their lives.
They have learned how to express themselves in a form other than words and to be able to feel passion and to become the dance.
As they have grown older they have been part of the company teams that take more commitment. I have been amazed at their strong desire to help their team to succeed.
This doesn’t always work out and sometimes they mess up the dance and the team doesn’t do well, but I love that. Not that I want them to loose but they have learned priceless lessons of how to take a loss as well as they take a win.
I love to see how they have made mistakes and had struggles because they have learned to work that much harder to get it right the next time.
They win some and they lose some but it has been an amazing experience of fantastic highs and painful lows and learning how to be a good team member and how to put the needs of the completion dance team above some of their own and be committed to each other.
They have had to learn personal skills to help them get along with other team members, their instructors and other students. They have had to learn to be the friend they would want others to be and how to stay away from gossip and pride.
As a father I could have never taught them these key lessons because they would not have listened as well to me. I have found that as a supportive father that I can provide a few key insights to them as they go through this life that hopefully make a difference.
Dance, acting and Vocal lessons for my children have given me those key moments to help them enjoy their successes and learn from the losses.
The benefits they have seen from lessons are across the board. From learning self-esteem, self-mastery, how to be part of a team, how to celebrate others success, how to humble enjoy your own success, how to present yourself in front of a crowd, how to take criticism from judges and others, how to work hard, how to set a goal and reach it, and on and on.
There are way too many distractions and negative influences that children can be enticed by.
I subscribe to the philosophy that if you keep your children involved in good activities that they love and can grow from at a young age then they won’t have time or desire to get distracted in the many negative influences that they face.
I would much rather see my son at a hip hop class or in a role in a play working to progress his skills than the playing for the high score on the latest video game or my daughters going from school to their dance teams rather than just Hanging out at a friend’s house.
There are many great activities that can benefit children but I have been amazed at how great dance has been for my children.
I give credit to my wife and her amazing staff at The Performers Place for creating such and amazing environment that focuses on the long term development of each student in a positive and encouraging way. Thanks for all that you do!
Health Benefits of Dance
One of the beauties of Dance Classes and Dance Lessons is that it is clinically proven to provide a variety of benefits such as Reduced Stress, Increased energy, Improving Strength, and Muscle tone and coordination as reported by the Mayo Clinic.
Says exercise physiologist Catherine Cram, MS, of Comprehensive Fitness Consulting in Middleton, Wisconsin, "Once someone gets to the point where they're getting their heart rate up, they're actually getting a terrific workout. Dance is a weight-bearing activity, which builds bones. It's also "wonderful" for your upper body and strength."
How many calories will you burn while dancing? That depends on the type of dancing. Here's a range of some of the most popular varieties, based on a 150-pound person, per hour:
While there are many benefits of dancing a recent study in the New England Journal of Medicine had some interesting findings. They found that the ONLY physical activity that provided a significant protection against dementia was dancing frequently.
Isn’t that amazing! While other activities such as reading and doing crossword puzzles also made a difference, Dancing was the only physical activity to show a benefit. Sorry Golfers, cyclers and Swimmers but dancing was the only physical activity to show a 76% reduction in dementia.
The combined benefits of physical dance with the mental aspects of steps and rhythm create the perfect balance of mental and physical exertion and provides split second rapid fire decisions making to benefit the brain.
The Performers Place provides all types of dance including Ballet, Hip Hop, Jazz, Tap dancing, Modern dance, breakdancing, and more. Your children will benefit from the physical and mental demands of dance.
While children can benefit from other sports teams dance classes in our own Lehi Utah can deliver a unique benefit to the mental development of your children.
